Mes maladies

I noticed yesterday that I had a day, more or less, without complaints. This was notable on account of how it was probably the first day that I didn't have one of the following:

  • a cold
  • post-cold sinusitis
  • eight million insect bites
  • a REALLY SORE FOOT
  • woodchipper-related skin loss (pic of which is available in a previous post)
  • foot blisters (unrelated to the above sore foot)
  • most worrying: the self-diagnosed, nearly-mortal right-hand nostril infection
  • associated illnesses: night time chilly sweats, headaches, a need to pee a lot and general fatigue and ennui.
Of course, after I noticed this, all the insects bit me, and I helped Chris to clip some wings. This is not just a sad metaphor, but also a thing you do on the farm. My job was to hold the chickens (hens and cockerels) while Chris cut off their feathers on one wing (which turns their sort-of-flying into not-flying, and means they don't escape so much). I was, to be honest, mauled by a chicken, which is essentially a small velociraptor anyway. I survived, though, as you can see, very nearly lost my intestines (it's that line on the right).

  2. I used to help with wing clipping when I was a little 'un and we had a cockerel called 'Super Chicken' who used to chase after me and attack me whenever I wore a particular jumpsuit. It's a wonder I'm not more scarred.
